Arrived on Bastogne in Sep 71. Worked in FDC, radio, FADAC, and slept in gun 3 bunker. We went to Barbara for Thanksgiving. Several of us went to Eagle in Jan/Feb, and the battery went to Da Nang for stand down in Feb/Mar. I stayed in Danang with HHQ 196th Inf until July. ps - I have posted before, but cannot find it.

hello 94th members its only been 40 years but the memories never fade. like the movie band of brothers we were there doing a job our country sent us to do. right or wrong the American way. this is the first time I've heard from any members in all these years. i was sent a letter from john hansen from michigan with a photo at the rockpile. a real feeling of joy one gets when after all these years its like a welcome home letter. i guess i felt i was just a number and after the war that was it. but to hear from people you served with they alone only know what you've been through. we can never forget those that died we served with .john gainous james holroyd. by for now! sam cardinale

I find this history to be most interesting. The 2nd Battalion 94th Artillery was the most impressive organization in the 108th. It also was the superior non-divisional artillery support for the 101st (no brag, just fact). During the period of my command, the 2/94 became known as the STYLE battalion. WITH STYLE became the the watch word of the battalion. "With Style, Sir" accompanied every greeting and salute with in the battalion.

I was assigned to the 2/94 in September of 68 when i arrived in country. At that time we were at camp JJ Caroll. Later we relocated to Charlie 2 outside Dang Ha. We called our section "Bravos Banditos". My grade was E-5 and my crew called me Sargent Robb. i came across this website while surfing around looking for a model of a 175. It's really good to know that someone put this site together. We had some really great men and one pesky monkey. Lots of memories came flooding back in when I came here. I was assigned to 2/94 in early April 1971 after serving nine months in an airmobile 105 unit (A1/8) of the 25th Inf Div. I joined A Btry FDC at FSB Cannonball west of Dong Ha and my buddy Dale Luedloff was assigned to B Btry. If my memory is correct, the whole battalion was at that site. FDOs when I joined were Lts. Beidle and Bond. Next stop was FSB Bastogne where Lts. Erney and Tompkins took over as FDOs. From there to FSB Vehgel, thence to Camp Eagle (Phu Bai?) for a short period and then back to Vehgel for the duration. Guys I served with included John Justice, Mike Knabenshue, Denny Riordan, Jack Veigle, "Norm" Drucker, "Maynard" Neumeyer, and others I'll no doubt remember after sending this e-mail. I left some great buddies in the 25th and didn't think I'd ever find friends like that again, but the men listed above proved me wrong. I think about them often. My DEROS date was Aug 24, 1971 and I processed out at Ft. Lewis. I've spent the past 27 years as a local government land use planner and am looking forward to retirement in a little over two years. I was originally a surveyor with 1/40 at Fort Sill. 2/94 needed surveyors, so I was transfered to HHB 2/94. I remember the train ride to Oakland, the ride on the troopship to Da Nang, and that scary convoy north along Route One, past Hue and Quang Tri to Camp Carroll (which was just being established). It was raining and miserable when we got there. They asked for volunteers to work in FDC so I went to HHB FDC (Peterson Niner). When Charlie Battery was sent to Dong Ha, they needed an extra man in FDC so I went with them. I was with Peterson Charlie Niner when we went to Gio Linh and later when we set up at Truk Khe (The Graveyard). When I went back to Camp Carroll, I went back to HHB FDC, but I stayed with the surveyors. Somebody found out I had an M-14 with a selector switch and sent me out on perimeter patrols and up in the towers (East towers) even though I was a short timer. But I managed to keep my head down and finally went home in August of 1967. Most folks just called me "T" or "Willy T" to distinguish me from Willy J (Urso from Chicago). When I got home, it seemed as if Newark, NJ was as dangerous as Viet Nam.

I discovered your site while surfing google. Just wondered if anything would come up. I was very surprised....nice work. I remembered a number of GI's from your "Members not located list". Gary Oliveria was a good friend...from Petaluma, California. I tried after the service to locate him, but was unsuccessfull. I was at Camp Carroll when we moved the unit to LZ Nancy. Kanalekai was a big Hawiian fellow that lived in my hootch. Marchi was from New York City and Horner was from somewhere in Illinois. Was assigned to 2/94 at Ft Sill a couple days before it left for Viet Nam but didn't go over until a month later. Got in country Nov 22 and spent a week locating Svc Btry in Dong Ha. I was the battalion pay specialist and spent my first month at the Marine Dispursing Office in Dong Ha with John Minnehan. We then went to HHB for 6 1/2 months and then were sent TDY to the 192nd Finance Company in Da Nang. I spent 365 days in country and processed all of you initial guys and your replacements. Can remember a lot of your names from the rosters of 66-67 & a few from 67-68 but don/t remember too many faces. Do remember a lot of happens including the lst KIA in HHB at Carroll in either Feb or Mar 67. The lst incoming round in our area hit the mess tent we had just vacated after watching a movie. A rocket made a direct hit on the open top bunker next to ours. I can't remember the name of the guy that was KIA but Weiser (spelling?) from Albuquerque was hit in the back by a piece of scrapnel and spent a couple months on a hospital ship recovering. Remember Merlin Fish, Bob Hicks - HHB clerk, Meyers - the cook, Bander - the mail driver, as well as Minnehan. Also, Cosme (?) in Personnel. I have wondered for over 30 years what happened to the 2/94. Now I know and I am extremely proud to have been a part of it. God bless you all, expecially Kelley who got me in touch.

Took care of money matters for all you original members and rotated in most of your replacements. I was attached to the 3rd marines on jj carrol and assigned to service battery as a welder. We were mobile and traveled to all outpost to repair the 175 guns and equipment often in the seige of battle. The 2nd & 94th artillery 175's has turned the fate of many battles and truly was a gun the v c feared. It also brought respect for the marines and army on the dmz. I've repaired the leaking fuel tanks, broken spades, changed the packs (motors), tubes,tracks, and rolled backwards off a B battery gun as it took a rocket hit to the right front spindle/track. While in repair of another one ,we received an urgent FO asking for help,the gun was loaded by the crew and I pulled the string-to be rewarded with a affirmative-you just killed a herd of elephants by the FO.

I was at Camp Haskins from July 1971 till we we're ordered to leave,around Feb. or March of 1972,I was in the maintenace pool.I drove fork lift operators to A.S.P.107,I was also dispatcher for fork lifts at ASP 107.I remember a Sargent Dodge,John Holder from Lexington,Ky.,actually John and I went to"Nam "together,buddy deal,he got to "Nam" first,I was last to leave,as a matter of fact "they" left my ass in "Nam",Opps ,yeah,no orders for several weeks?? Hi all, I think of JJ Carroll...Give me a phone call. I spent a lot of time taking parts and what ever to sites at Gia Lhyn (spelling), once up the AShaw, and to other sites such as the one at Dong Ha. Flew into KShan (spelling) once, Like you guys I got shot at (ambushed twice) , mortared, artilliered and hit by rockets. Be nice to hear from Funk, Byrd, (truth is I forget some of your names, forgive me), and all the others, the Capt., and Officers, who served with us. I CAME OVER FROM C- BATTERY- 8/4 FA WHEN IT STOOD DOWN. THE 2/94 FA (SERVICE BATTERY) WAS MY LAST ASSIGNMENT WHILE STATIONED IN VIETNAM. I DROVE SERV. 41 HAULING AMMO TO WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE BIG GUNS! I WAS ONE OF THE LAST GUYS TO GO HOME BEFORE UNCLE HO'S HORDE CAME ACROSS THE RIVER. I REMEMBER OUR 1ST SGT - TOP EARL HODGE DID NOT SHOW UP FOR FORMATION ONE MORNING. LATER HE WAS FOUND DECEASED IN HIS HOOCH. HODGE WAS A HUGE BLK GUY AT 6-5 AND OVER 400 LBS AND HE WAS IN CHARGE!! ALL OF THE OFFICERS WERE REQUIRED TO ADDRESS HIM AS SIR! DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ON HODGE?
