Several links I want all to read and view as you have time
I hope you will because it takes quite a bit of time to do this.
Two new letters from the Environmental Working Group documenting the known issues and requesting our EPA to finally come up with a safe dose level for dioxins after over 25 years of stalling.
You will note the issues pointed out are the same I and many of our Veteran Advocates have been pointing out to VA, IOM, and Congress with no results. Yet, here we see the same things documented and specified by the heavy hitters in the science community for the civilian population. I guess those combat fatigues and utilities really did work as environmental hazard suits.
You also need to remember that EPA early on was controlled by the chemical companies with regard to the dioxin issues just as our VA relied on them to deny all associations to service in Vietnam and the herbicide exposures. Dioxins in Agent Orange had never harmed anyone and in fact was like Orange Juice and good for you was the VA battle cry. This also was true of our presidents as well as our congress. Financial coffers in both the GOP and DNC candidates meant more than admitting not only the Vietnam Veteran Era toxic chemical issues but as well as our national environmental interests with regard to many health concerns for the entire population.
I for one doubt that in this issue EPA is operating as an autonomous federal agency and follows the direction of the present White House. No different than EPA officials and management have followed the direction of previous White Houses in either stalling the data, or minimizing the effects of dioxins. This includes shelving a very import dioxin report in 1979 that became some of the 1992 Dioxin Reassessment reported. Once I realized the impact the White House has on the EPA and the lack of truth of any science, not just dioxins, I suggested that that the head of the EPA be given at least a 10 year tenure then beholding to no single or two term White House and hopefully not to any party affiliate or congressional members. It has about come down to that with the lack of integrity in our government. A 10 year tenure would probably not be a bad idea for many federal agencies that are supposed to be autonomous for the benefit of the nation and of course are beholding to a single person or single White House.
I also question the IOM as an autonomous voice since our government is one of their primary contractors.
As you read through these letters please remember we said this years ago that McDonald’s French Fries was not creating all the increases in health issues in this nation as well as any industrialized or developing nation especially in our youngsters. An outside source besides living style and fast food with the rapid increase in issues was suspect.
I do also want to point out that the study done in 2003 by Emory and University of Cincinnati mathematics concluded “there was no threshold of exposure below which there is no cancer risk.” Many of you downloaded that study and analysis of four exposure groups from this website. Study also concluded that “all site cancers” were associated.
As a review either before reading the new letters or after you should also probably review again the John Hopkins report:
http://www.2ndbattalion94thartillery.com/Chas/Hopkins.htmA toxic chemical characterization job that was started in the early 1980's by EPA and then abandoned. Do you think that the massive amount of AO associated claims coming into VA about the same time just might have had something to do with this abandonment? I think it obviously did. A toxic chemical characterization still not addressed to this day. Including what little environmental half-life characterization that had been done I had been using to fight VA for some fellows and widows in some cases has now been pulled. The fact that I cited that characterization many times and concluded that with the more recent Hatfield reports of environmental dioxin remaining in Vietnam that even that characterization by EPA was a bare minimum and greatly underestimated. But even then; even at the EPA minimum it should have helped many veterans and widows in their claims for such areas as Korea and the absolutely stunning reply to our EPA's characterization of environmental conditions VA would say the soil half life characterization had to have been done in Korea or on the Korean DMZ to be specific. I mean we are talking a few months here after they said they quit spraying not decades. But alas VA gets away with it.
The above remember documents how stakeholders use paid for assassin bad scientists top stall what EPA should have done over two decades ago.
You should also review: http://www.2ndbattalion94thartillery.com/Chas/dioxinneuro.htm
The neuropsychological issues of dioxin are still not being addressed even though science has concluded a neuro-toxic implication. Dr. Cate Jenkins of the EPA pointed this out decades ago with data and facts yet everyone seemingly still wants to ignore these facts of neurotoxic issues or diagnosed as PTSD in some cases.
More supporting information comes from the governments own study:
“The most severe neuropsychological consequence of dioxin exposure is excessive suicides, which has been demonstrated among exposed Vietnam Veterans, chemical production workers in the U.S. and European countries, forestry workers, and railroad workers. Another severe consequence is the excessive death rate from accidents found among the dioxin-exposed chemical production workers and Vietnam Veterans, representing either motor neuron malfunction or suicide in disguise.
“In 1977, the Working Group of the International Agency for Research on Cancer found that neurological and behavioral changes were among the most frequently reported effects in studies of exposures to 2,4,5-T (IARC, 1977a). IARC identified 6 out of 7 different populations occupationally exposed to chlorinated phenolic compounds where neuropsychological symptoms such as neurasthenic or depressive syndromes were established (IARC, 1977b). IARC noted that PNS damage was also found in the same 6 dioxin-exposed populations, including polyneuropathies, lower extremity weakness, and sensorial impairments (sight, hearing, smell, taste). In 1986, the IARC clearly restated it’s finding that dioxin had been found to be associated with peripheral neuropathies and personality changes (IARC, 1986).
“The evidence from the 1990 Ranch Hand study (Thomas, et al., 1990) is particularly compelling in demonstrating CNS damage from Agent Orange exposure.
“Significant psychological deficits were found among Ranch Hand veterans in
several subscales in a battery of psychological tests. In contrast, none of
the typical dioxin-related psychological deficits were ever found in
statistical excess among matched controls. Ranch Hand Veterans experienced a
statistically significant excess of great or disabling fatigue during the
day, a condition found among many other populations exposed to dioxin.
“Borderline statistically significant verified psychological disorders were found for the category "other neuroses. A series of tests found a borderline statistically significant excess of Ranch Hands experienced depression, somatization, and the severity of psychological distress. Antisocial and paranoid scores for the Ranch Hands were significantly higher, and the psychotic delusion score was marginally significantly higher for Ranch Hands.
“CNS effects, other than neuropsychological deficits, were also found among
Ranch Hand veterans (Thomas, et al., 1990). When Ranch Hand veterans or
controls that had known past exposures to insecticides were excluded from
one analysis (so that neurological findings could be attributed solely to
Agent Orange), Ranch Hand veterans exhibited significantly elevated relative
risk for cranial nerve dysfunction. Analyses disclosed marginally more
balance/Romberg sign (standing without swaying when eyes closed and feet
together) and coordination abnormalities for Ranch Hand veterans.
“The VA proposed exclusion of peripheral neuropathies that only become evident 10 or more years after service in Vietnam, on the assumption that such a neuropathy could not be associated with Agent Orange exposure, due to the long interval from exposure.
“This assumption contradicts the findings of the OTA, which found that neurological damage is not always detectable clinically, or noticeable by, the sufferer after exposure to a neurotoxic substance such as dioxin. As time progresses or old age approaches, the rate of natural neuronal cell death accelerates, and the results of earlier neurological damage may first become evident, or unmasked (OTA, 1990). The availability of alternate neuronal pathways is reduced, which were formerly responsible for compensating for earlier toxic damage. The OTA specifically noted the importance of research showing the possibility that neurotoxic substances were important in Alzheimer's disease, the degenerative brain disease of old age.”
Now as damaging as this is please remember Ranch Hand was a snapshot in time of developing issues and we have no idea how more associated these issues became over life and that since that time Ranch Hand has concluded that due to fatally flawed assumptions of the comparison group that were not supposed to be exposed; half were indeed exposed.
Let us also not forget that when a reanalysis of the study data, free of charge by the way by the lead scientists, based on the flaws found was commenced by Dr. Michalek he got a letter from the Air Force dated July 6, 2006, ordering him to delete the data.
And you think our government gives a rats butt about Veterans and Widows and Damaged off-spring created by our own government. Think again the data is indisputable of nothing but government collusion in these dioxin issues. Both for our civilian population as well as the heavily exposed to multiple toxic chemical Veterans in Service to this nation.
Dr. Birnbaum Video
The following video by Dr. Linda Birnbaum formerly of the EPA and a national and international dioxin expert gives the facts. I find it ironic that it states “What Policy Makers Should Know.” I would include Senators Webb and Akaka in that statement since they seemed to be experts in dioxin issues and holding the VA accountable for the new Secretary adding new issues. Issues that should have been added decades ago and we still have more to add that are presently being denied. That is where the VA should be held accountable.
No at this point both Senator Webb and Senator Akaka can kiss by ex-Army butt. Any Vet or widow that votes for them whenever they are up again is in my opinion, after what has recently gone on, is making a big mistake. They both need to go find a job somewhere else. That also includes the present management of the Disabled American Veterans who would not speak out against Webb and him even challenging the cost and numbers of Veterans that developed diabetes a dioxin known causation for both civilian and veterans alike when no one in their family ever had a diabetes problem their entire life.
This is especially true since it looks like the generational birth defects are at least surfacing. I doubt congress will respond or even listen in our lifetime (they never have) but at least it is being mentioned in some circles of science and studies.
Please note the continued known issues by Dr. Birnbaum of a damaged immune system and what most studies have found in gastro issues. Both still denied by IOM and VA. Note the biochemical effects. I am sure there is much more I should remind you to take notes on but please review and remember for the most part she is talking small doses.

EPA Must Finish the Job of Protecting People from Dioxin
http://www.2ndbattalion94thartillery.com/Chas/dioxinpanel.htm"Dioxin (2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, also known as 2,3,7,8-TCDD, or TCDD) may well be one of the most-studied of all chemical pollutants. The U.S. National Toxicology Program has listed dioxin as a known human carcinogen since 2001 (NTP 2005), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has proposed to do the same (EPA 2010a). There is a large and persuasive body of research dating from the 1950s showing that dioxin undermines fetal development, damages the reproductive and immune systems and causes severe skin ailments and other disorders."
Think twice before you vote for someone already in office.
