On 19 December 1966, a 2˝-ton truck from Service Battery received moderate damage when it hit a Viet Cong mine north of Dong Ha, while being used to haul sand to the Battery area. Eight men aboard the truck escaped serious injuries, two of which were thrown from the truck with injuries.
PFC Daniel Kempton of Service Battery was one of the first two wounded in the 2/94th. PFC Daniel Kempton would return after operation and rehabilitation to be wounded the second time in May or June of 1967 during a rocket attack while serving in Service Battery at Dong Ha
The other solder wounded in the first combat event of 19 December 1966 was PFC Robert C. Lopp of Service Battery.
There was one of our Sergeant (E5)'s up there with me taking pictures. He got down low to hug the sandbags on the tower floor. I told him to sit up and look for muzzle flashes because the shells hitting the ground could not hurt us up that high and if one hit the tower (which it did a week later) hugging the floor would not help. During the first lull, he decided to go down the ladder. A shell hit at the tower base while he was on the top step, putting about a quarter-sized piece of fragment right into the fat part of his butt. SGT is unknown at this time.
From 1 Feb 1967 to 30 April 1967 there were 17 WIA's in the Battalion:

Patrick O. Hillis - who was WIA in early '68. I talked to him before he was medivac'd from the LZ on Carroll. It looked like he was going to be OK -I think his injury was an arm. He did not return to Carroll as his time was already short. I know he was from Seattle, WA.
